This phase focuses on getting medical students used to placement life as well as preparation for the OSCE. THIS IS THE FUN PHASE- MAKE THE MOST OF IT!
Tips for Phase 2b:
- Use placement to practice: talking to patients, getting familiar with history taking and doing examinations
- On placement- see as many signs/different conditions as possible as these may come up in the exam
- Practice histories/exams/communication stations on anyone and everyone…. housemates, friends, family, etc.
- Practice timings and presenting for the OSCE stations
- Use your green handbook
- Use textbooks and websites for example histories and mark schemes:
- OSCE: A Training Manual for Medical Undergraduates- Ruth Bird, Simon Fleming, Helen Twohig, Ali Majeed
- OSCE Cases with Mark Schemes: A Revision Aid for Medical Finals- Susan Shelmerdine, Tamara North, Jeremy Lynch, Aneesha Verma

- Mnemonics are useful! E.g. SOCRATES (general history), ISHRUG (abdominal exam), ALARM symptoms (GI history)
- Keep practising little and often as this is best for muscle memory
You will all be fine! Good luck!
